Artist Statement

My paintings take their cue from locations visited that have then been colored by time and emotional distance. In creating works that evoke more of a sense of place, I hope to invite a larger audience to revisit similar memories.

My recollections of people, places, situations, and sensations are initially captured in quick drawings or watercolor studies. At a later date, they are reinvented, reinterpreted, edited, combined or intensified in order to recall what first held my attention. These impressions form the basis for my "memoryscapes". My ever-changing vocabulary of pattern, color, form, light, line and texture, are some of the elements used to shape the places of memory.
